What is a Focus?

A Focus is a topic you want to measure your AI visibility for.

Last updated July 9, 2026

Think of it like study topics for an exam. You pick the topics you want to be tested on, and AVO tests you on each one separately. A Focus is the topic you choose.

For example, if you sell project management software, your Focuses might be "best project management tools for remote teams", "project management software for startups", or "task management apps with time tracking". Each one is measured independently.

What you need to set up a Focus

Each Focus has four required fields:

Focus statement - A clear description of the topic you want to measure. Be specific. "Marketing software" is too broad. "Email marketing automation for small businesses" is better.

Category - Choose what type of Focus this is: Brand, Service, Product, Technology, Market, or Expertise. This helps AVO understand the context.

Keywords - Terms associated with your topic. These help AVO generate better test questions. Add as many relevant keywords as you can think of.

Target languages - You can select up to 7 languages. AVO will measure your visibility separately for each language market.

Two ways to create a Focus

1

Use Discover Focuses

Click Discover Focuses on the Visibility page. AVO analyzes your domain and suggests topics you should be visible for. Review the suggestions, select the ones that are relevant, and click Add. This is the fastest way to get started.

2

Add a Focus manually

Click the + button to open the Focus form. Fill in the focus statement, select a category, add keywords, and choose your target languages. Use this when you have a specific topic in mind that Discover did not suggest.
